I cannot figure out how to display the assignments in # order on the grade-entry page. Is there a way to do this?

Whenever I enter new assignments - those are at the top of the list when I enter grades - convenient for adding grades. But if I want them to print out for the students in numerical order 1-25... I cannot figure out a way to do this. It seems to me, then that the assignments are printed out in a jumbled fashion. Drives me crazy!!!!!!

As a point of clarification, the Filter that is available in Gradbook Options will not sort the assignments by number or due date. Instead, that Filter option applies to the two following options, which range of assignments to display in the gradebook and which range of assignments to calculate the final grade on.

The Gradebook Assignments Analysis and Gradebook Assignments by Students reports have the option to sort either by Due Date or Assignment Number. It sounds like one of these two reports sorted by Assignment Number should provide you what you need.

Sometimes I have an assignment that takes a long time to grade. The due date might have been 9/10. In the meantime, I have a quiz that was done in class on 9/12 that I can knock out and easily get posted before I've finished grading the 9/10 assignment. So I enter grades for the quiz, and it is listed as #5 when I go to enter it because it's the 5th assignment I am entering. The next week I get the more difficult-to-grade assignment done, finally. When I go to enter it, it will have #6 for that assignment as it is the 6th assignment I am entering, but it will show up before the #5 assignment when I view it--because it had an earlier due date. I wouldn't mind that the numbering is now out of order if it were super easy to fix, but it takes some doing to fix that, and for me, is quite time-consuming. If the numbers would correct themselves, I'd be okay--but others might not be. One day they are talking about #5, then the numbering changes, and the same assignment that was #5 might now be #6. Some might not like that.

I could try to predict when I'll get something graded, but I'm not always accurate about that. Or I might change my mind and not even include an assignment I'd planned to include, and now my numbering will be off.

I really don't care if the due dates are off--not in line from earliest due date to latest due dates--but I don't like having the assignment numbers out of order, and as I said, I can't always know what number to give an assignment so that I won't have to change it later if I post another assignment that actually came in earlier but got posted later.

I know there is some auto correct that happens if I realize that the assignment I am just posting was due earlier, and I give it an earlier number--and I know I can edit the first assignment that is out of order and give it the correct number--that numbers that now come after it can also change automatically--but it doesn't always change all of the numbers after that one assignment (probably because of due date conflicts), and it takes a great deal of time to go in an re-number them all, one at a time.

What I'm trying to explain here may not make sense--I'm not sure how to better explain it. It would just be nice to have the option of having the numbering automatically change to be in line with the due dates even after they have been posted and completed.

I think these options (with better wording of course) would be nice to have:

*View assignments by due dates"
*View assignments by assignment number"
"View assignments by due dates and re-number accordingly"

That way we would all have a way that would work regardless of how or when we list assignments.

This is not an answer--I'm having the same issue as this teacher is having. I did the change in options to "Filter Assignments by assignment number"--but I am still seeing that it is arranging the assignments by due dates when I click on "scores by class." Is there something else I need to do so that the assignments are not arranged by due dates?

I understand it may seem like Aeries is preventing you from doing your job in the most efficient way you desire, but we would actually love to hear from you on why you prefer your assignments sorted by assignment number instead of due date when doing data entry. It's a feature we are continually evaluating for validity. Previous requests for this feature have led us to add the "Assignment Search" feature to easily look up assignments and navigate to Scores By Assignment for the selected assignment.

If you have the time, could you please provide some specifics about your grading situation and the reason why sorting by assignment number is desirable?

I am the original "questioner" and my reason for wanting the assignments in numerical order is simply a desire for oreder. When I print out the grade sheet for the students or when I send an email to the parents, I would like those assignments listed in numerical order. It must seem rather disorganized to parents and students to see assignments out of sequence. And when I am dealing with consecutive (by number, not due date) missing assgnments - it is hard to have to hunt for the assignment by number because they are out of order. Just because it is due on a certain date, doesn't mean I want it displayed that way on my grade entry sheet. I refer to my assignments by NUMBER not by due date, therefore I would like them to be able to be displayed in numerical order.

Another thing is that sometimes I forget to create an assignment entry. It is much easier to insert it by number than by due date.

I would like to see an entry option or at the very least a print option to display the sassignments by number.

And by the way, I did go back in and set the options for my already created gradebooks to display by number but it will not change. It is soooooo frustrating for me.

I also find the sequencing by date and not assignment frustrating. I enter grades once a week, and the order I have the assignments on my grade sheet may be different than the dates I have entered on Aeries. I have had to re-enter entire class grades because the software organized by due date and not by the order I entered the assignments. Aeries software ignores the assignment number thus creating confusion for me, the students, and the parents.

Please allow for a way to organize by assignment number.

Again--I'm not trying to answer the question--I still have the same question--the answer from admn doesn't solve the problem for me or others. I want to be able to sort assignments by assignment number in the "Scores by Class" screen. The sorting by due date just doesn't work for me, and going in and renumbering assignments is time consuming and confusing--if a student asks me about assignment #5, and I've gone in and changed the numbering so that the numbers are in correct order, that assignment might now be #6. Very confusing and frustrating. If I leave them arranged by due dates, then the numbering is too often out of order--so this is not the best way to work with sorting the assignments either. Please give us the option of sorting by assignment # in the "Scores by Class" screen--and anywhere else assignment numbers show.

I also find this issue frustrating when trying to enter grades or look at a students' assignments and progress. Under the options for gradebook, it has the setting to filter by number assignments or due date. If the option is to filter by assignment number, then that option should do what it says--order assignments by number. Is should not default automatically back to organizing them by due date. Personally, I would like the aeries gradebook to match my hand written gradebook. Our previous format of aeries, before taking it to the cloud, allowed us to do this. It did not reorder them by due date every time we switched screens. This is counterproductive since I have to reorder assignments to find the one I want in order to enter scores. It also does not make sense not to have assignments in numerical order when printing out a progress report for parents. If they were kept in numerical order, it would be easier to see the improvement or lack there of for students. It seems quite apparent that a good number of teachers using this program wish to have this feature corrected. I hope that the Aeries admin takes all of these comments under advisement and makes it possible to organize assignments by number.

I agree that it is more desirable to order the assignments by number than by due date, which confuses me, the students and their parents. This program is supposed to make the grading process simpler and easier, and it is not doing so. Please allow an option where the assignments are arranged by number on the grading screen.

As many of the other individuals above have noted, this should be a basic sorting option for the grading system. Sorting by due date is next to worthless for me. The due date is more of an informational item for parents and students than the way I think about my assignments. I can't manipulate the due dates to put assignments in a particular order without miscommunicating the actual due date to the parents and creating a huge mess. I can, however, manipulate the assignment number and get my assignments in a desirable order for my purposes and maintain the real due date. It was this way in the past releases. I'm not sure why that function was removed. Perhaps Aeries should consult teachers before making changes that reduce functionality.

Just a follow up on this thread. The original post was in Fall 2015 and Aeries has added features to assist with sorting assignments in gradebook.

On the Scores by Class view, select Sorting By. From the menu you can sort the assignments by number or due date.

To sort by number in the Manage Gradebook/Assignments tab, Click the hashtag to sort ascending or desending.
